Assuming there are 218 links in Example Forum:
- With the switch on, you'll see "Example Forum (218)"
- With the switch off, you'll see just "Example Forum"

At Admin Panel -> Settings -> Switches, the "show topics count by forum" switch enables the display of the number of topics in a forum next to the forum everywhere a forum is displayed.
