When pagination fails (going to page 2 of a category results in an error), this almost always means your file path to your attachments directory setting is wrong. Go to Admin Panel -> Settings-> System Configuraiton -> "File Path:" to fix it, or if you can't get there open up the config.php file and change the $uploadpath value.
