What is a custom template?
What is a custom template?

The true object of templates is to have one template generate 1,000's of different html pages for you. That being said you may run across times that require something unique to fit a specific set of circumstances. That is when custom templates come into the creation of your knowledge base.

The object of the overall game still remains the same you want as few templates as possible in order to create your knowledge base. So don't go about fixing a problem by creating a custom template for each category. WSN Knowledge Base has been created with the ultimate in flexibility available to you. First try to find a solution that will work more universally for your templates. The WSN Knowledge Base forum is a great resource of information for how others have found solutions to what may be the very same problem you are having.

When you have decided that a custom template is the solution to your current problem WSN Knowledge Base has also been designed to allow you to implement the use of custom templates very easily.

First if it is a custom template to be used with a particular category. All you need to do is add the path and name of the custom template into the field already provided just for that purpose, relative to your templates directory. For example custom/test.tpl would be the value to write for using a test.tpl in your custom templates directory. When ever that category is loaded the software will automatically check to see which template is to be used and will load it automatically.

There may be other areas where the use of a custom template needs to be used. You have the ability to add this information into the html Anchor tags that will take your visitor to that page and load your custom template. You simply add:
&custom=yes&TID=path-template_name to the linking information.

If you saved a custom template named 'mytemplate.tpl' in the 'custom' subdirectory of your template set, you could use <a href="http://scripts.webmastersite.net/wsnkb/manual/index.php?custom=yes&TID=custom-mytemplate">My custom page</a> to link to it.
