Style sheets are the best way to control the appearance of your site. They allow you to make changes to your sites appearance quickly and universally over your entire site. Many of the style items that are currently supported with html are becoming obsolete in favor of the use of CSS files. In the future, browsers may not support these obsolete html items and your page will lose all of the appearance items you have added to your page. But the best reason for using style sheets is there are a lot more things you can do with the appearance of your site in a style sheet than you can with just html.
As you are editing your templates you will see class="something" in a number of the html tags. This class item goes to the style sheet and tells your browser how this html item is suppose to appear in your page. If you want to change the appearance of a item. Go to your style sheet find the name that a "appears here" and you can make changes to the appearance of that item in the style sheet. Now everywhere on your site where the name that "appears here" is in a html tag, the changes you have made will change the appearance of that item.
