Sometimes, people have found that clearing their cookies fixes their problem.
An upgrade can always be worth a try if using an old version. If you can't login and therefore can't run the upgrade, open upgrade.php and change $emergencyuprgade = false; to $emergencyupgrade = true; and this will let you upgrade without being logged in as an administrator.
